Vinyl Decal Fitting
Step 1: Surface Prep
The first and most important step is preparation. To make sure you get the best adhesion and results, ensure your surface is clean, free from dirt, dust or grease. Ensure there is no fresh wax, polish, glass protectors, etc as these will stop the adhesive from working fully.
Ideally use a microfibre cloth with isopropyl alcohol (also found in some glass cleaners) to prepare the surface. Let the surface dry before continuing.
Step 2: Decal Prep
Firmly rub the decal with moderate, even pressure using a squeegee or plastic card, pressing the transfer tape against the vinyl. This will create a good adhesion between the decal and the transfer tape.
Carefully and slowly remove/roll the backing paper from the transfer tape at a 180 degree angle. Only the decal and the transfer tape should remain
Step 3: Apply
Dry Method: Choose where you want the decal to go and place it on the surface. Try and keep an edge up so you can push any air outwards towards this edge. Using a squeegee or plastic card, press down firmly and evenly to ensure the adhesive contacts the surface and any air bubbles are removed. Ideally allow 5-10 minutes for the adhesive to take effect before removing, maybe longer in really cold environments. Slowly and carefully remove the transfer tape at a 180 degree angle (you want to kind of roll it off, not pull it upwards as this is effectively pulling the decal off the surface). If it's not sticking, it's likely the surface is contaminated with a coating or something that is stopping the adhesive working. Repeat step 1.
Wet Method: (Common sense, if you can't put/use water where you're putting the decal or the surrounding area, don't use this method, e.g. electrics, anything that water will damage, etc)
If you want some small room for moving the decal around or have a really large decal, you can apply the decal wet. This involves using a spray bottle with a drop or 2 of dish soap (2 drops to 500ml water is plenty - don't go overboard) and the rest water. Spray the surface and adhesive side of the decal with your dish soap/water solution, position your decal, fine tune where you want it. Use your squeegee or plastic card and push the water and air out from the middle to the edges. This will take a few attempts to do. Once you're happy you have most of the water out and there are no bubbles, leave the decal for approx. 10-15 minutes (temperature dependant) for the water to dry out. Carefully and slowly remove the transfer tape at a 180 degree angle (if it's lifting, its still too wet or the surface is contaminated with a coating or something that is stopping the adhesive working. Repeat step 1). You want to kind of roll it off, not pull it upwards as this is effectively pulling the decal off the surface.
If everything has gone to plan, stand back and admire your new decal.
No responsibility will be taken for any damage to surfaces or decals or anything else from incorrect fitting or preparation.
